Report: The Arab tiger has high opportunities to recover in the event of the implementation of its protection measures

Sharjah on February 10 / WAM / A recent evaluation of the situation of the Arab tiger said according to the green list of the International Federation for the Conservation of Nature is published next March that the Arab tiger even though it is still in critical extinction, but it has high opportunities to recover in the event of implementation of the necessary measures to protect it.

As part of these efforts, the United Nations approved February 10 a global day for the Arab tiger, with the aim of raising global awareness and enhancing coordinated efforts to protect and sustain its natural environment.

The Arab tiger is a unique environmental symbol of biological diversity in the Arabian Peninsula.

This threatened type faces major challenges that include the loss of its natural clients, the depletion of its sources of food, and the demographics, as well as the illegal fishing.

The International Day of the Arab Tiger highlights this most extinct animal, according to the classification of the red list of the International Federation for Conservation of Nature.

His Excellency Saif Al -Suwaidi, head of the Environment and Natural Reserves Authority in Sharjah, announced the birth of a new Arab tiger in the Center for the Protection and Pressing of the Endangery Wildlife, which is followed by the authority. This achievement is an important step within the ongoing efforts to preserve this threatened type, through pronouncement and resettlement programs and creating the ideal natural environment for its upbringing. The authority also focuses on providing integrated health care and developing the information base related to the behavior of the Arab tiger.

As part of the ongoing protection efforts, the Environment and Natural Reserves Authority in Sharjah organized a conference in October 2024 in partnership with the specialized group of cats of the International Federation of Nature Conservation. During it, updating the comprehensive strategy to preserve the Arab tiger until 2030.

The updated strategy aims to ensure the remaining ground groups remain, restore the numbers of the Arab tiger through comprehensive programs that target species, prey and natural habitats. The strategy includes 12 major goals, including strengthening environmental surveys, creating an effective network of protected areas, and involving local communities in protection efforts, In addition to enhancing international cooperation.

Participants in the conference stressed that the efforts to preserve within natural habitats alone are no longer sufficient to ensure the sustainability of the Arab tiger and explained the necessity of following an integral approach that includes preservation in the land and abroad, through scientific proliferation programs under supervision, to ensure the sustainability of the species and enhance the numbers of tigers in nature.

Among the most prominent outputs of the conference, the announcement of the formation of a permanent working group for the Arab tiger that includes experts from domain countries and international organizations, and the group will supervise the implementation of the strategy, coordinate research on genes, and monitor the numbers of tigers, in order to enhance the continuity of the momentum achieved during the conference.

Professor John Paul Rodriguez, Chairman of the Committee for the survival of the species of the International Federation for the Conservation of Nature, said: Common, as saving this rare type requires everyone’s solidarity. ”
