Dubai, February 11 / WAM / Permanent officials in the global aviation sector stressed the importance of accelerating the frequency of innovation and adopting modern technologies to develop the aviation sector and keep pace with the rapid global changes, and stressed the need to enhance sustainability and improve travelers ’experience by relying on digital transformation and artificial intelligence.
This came during a session entitled “The New Age of the Future of Aviation” within the work of the first day of the World Summit of Governments 2025, in which Salvatori Shakitano, President of the International Civil Aviation Organization, Farid Lam, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong Airport Authority, and Roberto Alfo, CEO of the Latam Airlines Group Air, and Luis Felipe de Oliveira, Director General of the International Airports Council.
Louis Philby de Oliveira said the aviation sector constitutes about 10% of the global economy, making it an essential element of sustainable growth.
He added that cooperation between governments and the private sector is necessary to achieve progress, stressing the importance of technology adopting to support development and create new job opportunities.
He stressed that there is an urgent need for clear public policies that enhance the sustainability of aviation, noting that the full data to make strategic decisions is still not available enough yet.
He added that it is necessary to improve the aviation infrastructure to keep pace with the expected increase in the movement of passengers and flights, stressing that investing in modern technology will work to improve operational efficiency significantly, which supports the competitiveness of countries that effectively manage this sector.
Salvatori Shakitano said that the movement of passengers will witness a remarkable increase during the next twenty years, noting that the aviation sector has regained its numbers before the Kofid-19 pandemic, as the number of passengers reached 4.6 billion people.
He stressed that the sector needs to enhance gender equality, as the percentage of women in the aviation industry is still 5%, which is a low percentage, stressing the need to preserve the trained human cadres to meet the challenges of the future, adding that a work environment should be created that supports diversity and equality, because the aviation sector must be He has great possibilities to achieve these goals, if focusing on professional training and development.
It addressed the importance of technological transformations that will contribute to achieving the goals of sustainability in the aviation industry, explaining that the use of alternative fuel will play a crucial role in reducing carbon emissions, which contributes to preserving the environment.
He concluded his speech by pointing to the importance of building a global framework for regulating growth in the aviation sector, ensuring a balance between the needs of the market and environmental and social interests.
Farid Lam said that Hong Kong has succeeded in developing infrastructure projects, such as the three corridors, which enhances its position as a global transportation center.
He added that the airport expects to receive 120 million passengers annually, along with 10 million containers, which makes it the most absorbing of air freight globally.
He stressed that facilitating access to the airport across the border will enable travelers to use it easily, stressing the importance of strengthening the policy of open atmosphere to support global interdependence.
He explained that investing in the flexibility of establishments by developing new stations and modernizing technologies will contribute significantly to improving the experience of passengers and increasing the airport’s absorptive capacity.
Roberto Alfu said that Latin America has great potential for sustainable fuel production, but it needs public policies that support the development of the sector.
He added that the movement in the region is still facing great geographical challenges, and land or sea travel may take a long time compared to aviation, noting that Latin America represents a real opportunity to achieve great progress in the aviation sector, if appropriate policies are developed to support innovation and technology.
He explained that one of the biggest challenges facing Latin America in this context is the need to improve the infrastructure of aviation, as some countries still face difficulties in modernizing their airports and air control technologies, calling on governments to work jointly to develop comprehensive policies that enhance the growth of the aviation sector and support its capabilities In the face of the future.
