The European Union will quickly respond to American customs duties

German Chancellor Olaf Schultz stated that the European Union will quickly respond to the private customs duties announced by US President Donald Trump to steel and aluminum imports to the United States.
On the sidelines of a dialogue with citizens in the city of Ludwiggglida, eastern Germany, Schultz said on Tuesday that “the European Union can respond quickly and will do so.”
He stressed that the European Union is a very strong economic zone, and it has its own means to take the necessary measures.

Not to keep customs duties

Schultz added: The goal should be not to keep customs duties in the end, whether on this side or on the other side, however, if necessary, we can also impose customs duties ourselves.

He explained that the European response could be fast, and continued: We are in close contact with the European Commission in this regard.
The European Commission has not yet determined how its response to these procedures will be.

A major threat to European production

US President Trump announced earlier that customs duties imposed 25% on steel and aluminum imports to the United States, stressing that these fees will be applied without exception to all countries.
The European Steel Manufacturers Union said that the new American fees announced, a major threat to production in the European Union.
According to sources in the European Parliament, the European response will come on the first of next April, and the head of the Trade Committee in the European Parliament, Bernd Lanjah, said in Strasbourg: If we do not reach an agreement by March 12, and we will continue of course negotiations now, the anti -customs duties will be imposed as of April 1.
