Emirates, Ethiopia, the African Union and “Igad” hold “the high -level humanitarian conference for the people of Sudan” in Addis Ababa

The UAE has held with the Democratic Federal Republic of Ethiopia, the African Union and the International Development Authority (Igad), today, in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, “the high -level humanitarian conference for the people of Sudan.”

The conference was attended by Dr. Abi Ahmed, Prime Minister of the Democratic Federal Republic of Ethiopia, Dr. William Samawi Roto, President of the Republic of Kenya, Antonio Guterres, Secretary -General of the United Nations, Moussa Faki Mohamed, President of the African Union Commission, and representatives of the Igad Authority, as well as a number of regional and international countries participated in it. And leading international organizations.

The conference aimed to mobilize regional and international efforts to confront the catastrophic crisis in Sudan, and to launch a strong and unified invitation to a humanitarian truce during the month of Ramadan.

In this regard, many countries have expressed support for the UAE’s call to a humanitarian truce and stop the war during the blessed month.

Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan said that with the approaching month of Ramadan, the UAE, in cooperation with the government of Ethiopia, the African Union and the Igad Authority, held a conference that brings together countries and international organizations to renew obligations in the context of joint efforts to reduce the suffering of the brotherly Sudanese people.

Approach the path

He added that, as the first Sudan conference to be held this year, this important conference will determine the path for future conferences prescribed to help the Sudanese people and the UAE continues its cooperation with regional and international partners, especially with its partners in Africa to provide assistance by all available means.

He called on the warring parties to respect the sanctity of the blessed month of Ramadan by implementing a humanitarian truce to ensure safe and urgent access and without any obstacles to basic humanitarian aid for those most in need, especially children, the elderly and women.

He stressed that “Veto” is not the arrival of humanitarian aid, calling on the international community to intensify its efforts to ensure the access of humanitarian aid to the needy around the world, noting that it is necessary to emphasize that no party has the right to hinder arbitrarily the arrival of life -saving aid.

He stressed that the UAE continues its commitment as one of the leading countries in providing aid to alleviate the humanitarian crisis faced by the brotherly Sudanese people, noting that in this context, the UAE provided an additional $ 200 million of humanitarian aid, bringing the total aid to $ 600.4 million since the outbreak of Conflict.

He added that the UAE has provided $ 3.5 billion in aid to the Sudanese people, over the past decade, which confirms its established efforts in supporting those who are in times of need in times of crisis.

He reaffirmed the UAE’s steadfast position in calling for an immediate ceasefire, and addressing the humanitarian crisis by providing urgent relief assistance, in a way that meets the aspirations of the brotherly Sudanese people towards development and prosperity.

Solidarity with the Sudanese people

For his part, Dr. Abe Ahmed, Prime Minister of the Democratic Federal Republic of Ethiopia, said … Ethiopia has effectively supported the efforts of peace and stability in Sudan, and has also contributed to enhancing economic efforts by providing electricity through allocated energy lines.

For his part, Faki Muhammad said: “The existing and unlikely conflict in Sudan indicates the failure of the leadership of the warring parties to give their state and the Sudanese people an opportunity to achieve peace, justice, dignity and the creation of a homeland. This situation – in addition to the continuous rejection of those who take this global conflict An excuse under the pretext of rid Sudan of war and continuous division – moral and political failure, and accordingly, I repeat once again my invitation to the Sudanese army and the rapid support forces and their allies to adopt a permanent, comprehensive and immediate ceasefire without conditions.

He also said: “The ceasefire will pave the way for a comprehensive Sudanese political dialogue to address the root causes of the conflict and return Sudan to the constitutional system.”

In turn, Dr. Rukruna Jibhoho, Secretary General of the “Igad”, considered that “the future of millions of Sudanese is at stake, and history has put on us the responsibility of behaving and now more than ever, we have to go beyond pledges and focus on practical and coordinated steps in order to reduce suffering, and set the foundation For long -term recovery in favor of the people and the Republic of Sudan.

For two years, we have seen the development of one of the most dangerous humanitarian disasters in the world, as this crisis requires our immediate and collective work.
This large and varied presence today confirms the importance of the message aimed at addressing the situation in Sudan, and the need to confront it collectively.
After two weeks, the Islamic world receives the holy month of Ramadan, and we call during this holy period to respect these days and agree to the ceasefire, which reflects the values ​​of mercy and human solidarity embodied by the month of Ramadan, which provides a prominent and important opportunity to alleviate the tremendous suffering of the Sudanese people – which forms women and children Most of it.

This conference will ensure the provision of the necessary resources to humanitarian organizations to provide assistance to the Sudanese people during this holy month.
Since April 2023, the UAE has made more than 400 million US dollars to support the Sudanese people (in Sudan and in neighboring countries that have received large numbers of refugees). Today, we reaffirm our fixed commitment to the Sudanese people by announcing the allocation of an additional $ 200 million of humanitarian aid. This support confirms our firm solidarity in the past decade, during which we provided 3.5 billion US dollars to our brothers and sisters in Sudan.
Excellencies
We all agree on the importance of preserving the rights of the Sudanese people, so their children have the right to safety and the right to food and the right to the basics of life, medical care, clean water and shelter. These rights cannot be politicized, nor challenging, through bureaucratic operations or mechanisms.
This conference highlights the importance of intensifying international efforts to ensure humanitarian aid reaching the needy. It is also necessary to emphasize that no party has the right to hinder the arrival of life -saving aid.
In this regard, we emphasize the importance of all parties adhering to their binding duties according to international humanitarian law. And that those responsible for obstructing humanitarian aid be held accountable without hesitation.
Accordingly, we renew our call to all parties to ensure safe and sustainable access to humanitarian aid and without any obstacles, and the need to protect workers in the humanitarian field and humanitarian establishments, and to stop attacks on humanitarian operations.
