Ice rivers have lost 6542 billion tons of ice since 2000

Glorious ice escapes lost 6542 billion tons of ice between 2000 and 2023.
This led to the high sea level by 18 millimeters, according to an analytical study.

Icebergs

During this period, the ice rivers lost 273 billion tons of ice annually on average, according to a study published in the journal Nature as part of a project compared to the balance of ice block (Glambe).
The ice scientist Michael Zembe explained that 273 billion tons of ice are equivalent to what the world’s population is completely consumed in 30 years, assuming consuming three liters per person per day.
The “Jalambi” project is a major international research initiative supervised by the global iceberg monitoring service, which is hosted by the University of Zurich.

Ice rivers in the world

Hundreds of researchers from all over the world participated in the project, collecting various data from field measurements, and used tools such as visual and radar satellites.
In addition to laser and gravity to create an annual time chain to change the ice block for all areas of the ice rivers in the world between 2000 and 2023.
The researchers have found that since 2010, the ice rivers lost about 5% of their total size.
Central Europe alone lost 39% of the ice, while it lost areas such as the Antarctica islands, and under the Antarctic about 2%.
