"New York Abu Dhabi" Programs that support cultural diversity and enhance community participation

Abu Dhabi on the first of March / WAM / New York University Abu Dhabi is the first university campus specializing in the arts and humanities in the region, and it provides its students with global education in free arts that reflects the cultural diversity that the state abounds with the participation of students, faculty and researchers from more than 120 countries on a multi -cultural educational trip that enhances their capabilities and skills.
Fabio Biano, Vice President of the University, said in a statement to the Emirates News Agency “WAM”, that New York University Abu Dhabi is keen to enhance the culture of innovation through programs that support the community -based learning, and implements many initiatives and programs that support the goals of the “Year of Society” in the UAE, and have the great participation of students; Especially as it allows them to create sustainable links that extend beyond university life.
Piano touched on the most prominent of these programs and initiatives, including the “Engineers for Social Impact at New York University Abu Dhabi”, which encourages students to apply engineering solutions in practical contexts, taking into account the social, cultural and economic dynamics around the world, and the “dialogue” series initiative, which contributes to bridging cultural and ideological gaps through organized talks on peace, identity, and coexistence.
He explained that the Institute of Arts and Humanities for peace to be officially opened in April 2025 is in line with the World Free Arts Mission to New York University, and it is devoted to promoting education on the role of peace and its sustainable impact on the future of societies, pointing out that the institute focuses on developing education, research excellence, community participation, and cultural programs, to be a center for academic dialogue, and is scheduled to host its first activities, which is Conference of tolerance, reconciliation and dialogue, on April 18 and 19.
He stated that the university also hosts in cooperation with the Emirati Special Olympics and the Institute of Applied and behavioral training, on May 4, 2025, the eleventh edition of the annual conference of inclusiveness under the slogan “Community: Enhancing the Specifications of Inclusion”, which aims to collect families, careers, teachers, professionals, and policy models to exchange best practices in comprehensive education for people of determination.
He stressed that the university implements many programs concerned with building society, which includes the “Humanity Library” initiative that aims to enhance cultural dialogue, the “Comprehensive Leadership Forum for Youth”, which brings together high school students from integrating clubs to present their efforts in creating more comprehensive school and sports environments, and “community learning programs” that aim to involve students in the application of academic knowledge to real challenges.
He added that the “Social Responsibility Office” at the university supports adult education for contracting workers and contractors to enhance social integration and lifelong learning, while the university is also implementing the annual societal garden breakfast initiative, which brings students to a local farm in Liwa to participate in agricultural activities, while they participate in the month of Ramadan in preparing fresh meals for local workers.
He pointed out that the university is also implementing the initiative of the “Rubb” center in cooperation with the Emirates Foundation and the UAE Council for Rural Regions, with the aim of supporting young women in rural areas, by providing virtual private lessons in the English language, digital skills, and preparing employment requests.
Piano touched on the programs of New York Abu Dhabi General University, including the Institute of New York University Abu Dhabi, which was established in 2008, a center for advanced research and academic exchange, hosted more than 1500 conferences and public effectiveness, in addition to the New York University of Arts Center, which hosts musical and theatrical performances, which brings together international artists, students, faculty members and members of the local community.
He pointed out that the art gallery at New York University Abu Dhabi was established in 2014, and it is one of the only show spaces hosted by a university in the Arab Gulf region, and it offers experimental exhibitions to enhance regional and international artistic dialogue.
He stated that the university is implementing the “Summer Academy” program, a 18 -month selective program to prepare Emirati students in the high school for prestigious universities, locally and internationally, from which 345 students graduated from universities such as New York, Bernston, Weel and UCL. He pointed out that the Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Scholarship Program for Higher Education provides advanced educational opportunities in leadership and academic development for distinguished students from Emirates University, Zayed University, and Higher Technology Colleges, and has been joined since 2008, a total of 349 students, 70% of whom are Emirati.
