technique "Video Challenge" Supports the accuracy of arbitration in airplane competitions "Ladies Arab 2026"

Sharjah, February 6, 2020 – The “Video Challenge” technology – reviewing refereeing footage via television replays – has registered its presence as one of the most prominent refereeing developments in volleyball competitions within the eighth edition of the Arab Women’s Club Games 2026, in a step that reflects the organizing committee’s keenness to develop the arbitration system and keep pace with international standards, in conjunction with the adoption of the game internationally for the first time within the tournament’s programme.
The Sharjah Women’s Sports Club hall witnesses the application of technology through an integrated system that includes 19 cameras distributed throughout the stadium, allowing arbitration decisions to be reviewed with high accuracy, and enhancing justice and transparency within competitions.
This system enables referees and teams to replay decisive shots using multiple shooting angles and advanced imaging techniques, ensuring more accurate and objective decisions are made.
Hamed Al-Russi, the world referee and international observer, confirmed that the introduction of the “Video Challenge” technology for the first time in volleyball competitions during the tournament represents a qualitative leap in the development of arbitration, noting that its application contributed to reducing arbitration errors in crucial moments, and enhancing the confidence of female players and technical staff in the decisions taken on the court.
He explained that the technology allows the review of a number of important arbitration cases, including the ball being counted inside or outside the field, touching the net, backline errors, handball or obstruction of vision, in addition to decisive cases that may affect the outcome of the match, noting that each team has the right to request a review twice in each half, with the right continuing if the request is proven to be valid.
Hamed Al-Russi pointed out that the adoption of the technology in this version comes as part of a trend to keep pace with global technological development in the management of sports competitions, and constitutes a preliminary step to expand the scope of its use in future tournaments at the Arab and local levels, thus contributing to raising the efficiency of arbitration and raising the organizational and technical level of competitions.
Hamed Al-Rusi thanked Sheikh Ali bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, President of the Bahraini and Arab Volleyball Federations, for his great efforts, and appreciated the existing cooperation between the organizing committee and the Arab and Emirati Volleyball Federations for providing this technology, stressing that the Arab Women’s Club Games has become an advanced sports platform that adopts the latest organizational and arbitration practices, thus enhancing its position as one of the most prominent women’s sports forums in the region.
