Increasing population and “economic expansion” raises the demand for energy in Dubai

The Managing Director, CEO of the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority «Diwa), Saeed Mohammed Al -Tayer, announced the increase in energy demand in the Emirate of Dubai during the year 2024 by 5.4% compared to 2023.
Al -Tayer explained that the volume of energy demand in 2024 amounted to 59,594 gigatts, compared to 56,516 gigatts in 2023, indicating that the authority continues to develop a leading infrastructure for electricity and water, and raise the ability of transport and distribution networks, to meet the increasing demand for electricity and water, and keep pace with the great growth in the population of Dubai, and the steady expansion witnessed by the emirate in various economic activities.
Al -Tayer continued: “Thanks to the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, may God preserve him, Dubai has become a global city and a preferred destination for living, work, entrepreneurship and tourism.” He added: “The prosperity of the Urban, Economic and demographic Emirate of Dubai contributes to enhancing the growth of the sustainable body, with the increasing demand for electricity and water, and in line with the Dubai Economic Agency (D33) It aims to double the size of Dubai’s economy during the next decade, and to consolidate its position among the three best economic cities around the world. The authority’s production capacity has increased to 17.179 GB of electricity.
Al -Tayer pointed out that clean energy constitutes 20% of the total energy production capacity in the authority, in support of the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 “and” Dubai Carbonia 2050 Strategy “that aims to provide 100% of the production capacity of Dubai from clean energy sources by 2050, indicating that the authority has become a model to follow the world in the efficiency and energy of energy and water, and provide its services according to higher Standards of availability, sustainability, efficiency and quality.
It is noteworthy that the “atomic demand” on energy witnessed a noticeable increase in 2024, as it reached 10.76 GB, an increase of 3.4% compared to 2023, at a time when the authority is committed to a firm commitment to sustainability and operational excellence in the services it provides.
