The Department of Criminal Phenomena in the General Administration of Criminal Investigations and Investigations, in cooperation with the police stations in Dubai, seized 9 beggars on the first day of the blessed month of Ramadan, as part of a campaign to stimulate the begging launched by the General Command of Dubai Police under the slogan “A conscious community, without begging”, in cooperation with strategic partners representatives of the General Administration of Residence and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority in Dubai, Dubai Municipality, and the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Affairs Department in Dubai, and the service of the Secretary, with the aim of raising awareness of the importance of preserving the civilizational image of the state by combating and preventing begging.

Brigadier Ali Salem Al Shamsi, Director of Criminal Phenomena Department in the General Administration of Investigations and Criminal Investigation, said that the campaign to struggle begging is one of the successful campaigns launched by the administration in cooperation with the partners, which contributed to reducing the numbers of beggars annually due to the strict and firm measures taken against the seized beggars, as the campaign on the first day of Ramadan resulted in the seizure of 9 beggars, including 5 males And 4 females.

He explained that the Dubai Police is annually set an integrated security plan to combat begging, by intensifying patrols in places expected to be beggars.

And Brigadier Ali Salem, that the Dubai Police, in the context of its continuous keenness to combat all the negative aspects that affect society, annually monitor the fraudulent methods of beggars with the aim of developing plans and programs to combat and limit them to reach to control those involved to protect society.

Exploiting feelings of mercy

He pointed out that the beggars are always trying to exploit the feelings and atmosphere of mercy and affection that prevail in the holy month of Ramadan to achieve illegal gains, warning against dealing with these actions that take several forms, including the exploitation of children, patients and people of determination to beg in order to gain sympathy, where several cases were seized for women who begged with children.

Brigadier Ali Salem added that the beggars seek to sympathize with people on the occasions of worship and holidays to begging in a fraudulent and professional manner, which is a criminal violation punishable by law.

Brigadier Ali Salem explained that the campaign aims to combat all forms of begging, whether traditional in the places of worshipers, councils and markets, or unconventional such as electronic begging or requesting donations to build mosques abroad, or claim a request for assistance for humanitarian and other cases, indicating that the campaign seeks to achieve several goals, most notably preserving the civilizational image of society, and protecting society from crimes related to traditional and electronic begging, and controlling The begging and organized begging crimes.

He stressed that there are official channels for charitable work and providing aid through charitable bodies and institutions to ensure donations reaching those who are entitled to them, urging donation through these channels.

Brigadier Ali Salem called on members of the public to report beggars by calling the free number (901) or the “Police Ain” service available on the Dubai Police application on smartphones, as well as reporting the cases of electronic begging via the “E-CRIME” e-platform.
