Trump imposes 25% customs duties on Mexican and Canadian imports

US President Donald Trump stated that customs duties will be imposed by 25% on Mexican and Canadian imports from tomorrow, Tuesday, which raises new concerns about the outbreak of a trade war in North America.
“Tomorrow, customs duties will be imposed by 25% on Canada and 25% on Mexico, and this will be the beginning,” Trump told reporters in the Roosevelt room.
Trump said that the customs duties would force the United States’ neighbor to intensify their battle against the smuggling of fentanel into the United States.
Trump had postponed the imposition of customs duties for one month in February, with the two countries pledged to make concessions. But Trump said today, Monday, that “there is no longer room for Mexico or Canada” to avoid high new customs duties.
Trump said he would also add 10% of 10% customs duties on goods from China, as well as preliminary customs duties by 10% imposed last month.
