A huge fire in the historical center of the Peruvian capital

The Peruvian authorities announced yesterday that hundreds of firefighters continue to combat a huge fire that broke out on the night of Monday in the historical center of the capital, Lima, and extended to many commercial buildings, without causing any injuries so far.

Carlos Malbeka, one of the firefighting officials of the TV channel, said the fire broke out on Monday night in a warehouse of games and food before it extended to other buildings. He added that “the fire may continue until Sunday.” Many residents were forced to leave their homes, and some of them took some of them from their furniture or goods. The fire site has risen columns of thick black smoke that could be seen from several kilometers away.

“We are in the historic center of Lima, where there are many warehouses,” he told French Press Agency. It is a real time bomb for housing. ” For his part, Mario Casareto, who is in charge of disaster management in the municipality of the capital, said that “11 families were damaged” as a result of the fire. According to Malbeka, the affected buildings did not meet “any of the safety criteria”, whether because they did not enjoy emergency exits or for the lack of a fire extinguishing system in it.

He explained that among the leaps for the few firefighting in these buildings, some of which were “out of service”. Fire teams were forced to use water tanks filled with tanks to fight fire.
