Expectations of the growth of renewable energy generation in the region 14% during 2025

Abu Dhabi, March 6 / WAM / The International Energy Agency, in its latest reports on electricity productivity, expected that the renewable energy sector in the UAE and the countries of the Middle East region will witness remarkable growth over the coming years, as its generation in the Middle East increased at an annual rate of 14% during the period from 2025 to 2027.

The report pointed out that the expected increase in the rate of renewable energy generation will contribute to increasing its share of the total electricity production from 5% to 7% during the expectation period, supported by the growth of solar photovoltaic energy, which represents the main driver for the growth of renewable energy sources, as its share will increase from about 55% to 70% by 2027.

The report said that the UAE has made great progress in the solar energy sector, and that it represents with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia the largest part of the growth in the region, expecting the annual generation of solar energy in the region by 23% from 2025 to 2027.

He stressed that the nuclear energy plays an increasingly important role in the energy mix in the region, as it recorded 20% growth on an annual basis in 2024, led by the UAE, which continues to enhance the contribution of nuclear energy to achieving a varied and sustainable mix of energy.

On the other hand, the report indicated that the generation of electricity from natural gas grew by 2.9% in 2024, and that growth is expected to accelerate to an annual average of 5.3% during the period from 2025 to 2027, while increasing the gas share in the energy mix from 68% to 73%, driven by government policies supporting the transformation from oil to natural gas.
