Osborn: New equipment for"Heart of Honor" To boost his chances in the Dubai World Cup

Dubai, 27 March / WAM / British jockey Saffy Osborne expressed her aspiration to participate strongly in the Dubai World Cup evening, and to compete in two rounds of the event, stressing that “The Cup Night represents one of the most prominent international events in horse racing, and being in it is a special opportunity for any jockey.”

Osborne, the daughter of British trainer Jamie, is the first female jockey to win at the Meydan Racecourse, after leading the horse “Ozo” to win the “Lord Glitterers Handicap” title within the 2024 Dubai Racing Carnival. She also recently achieved victory in the “Road to the Kentucky Derby” race on the same track during the current season.

Osborne will participate in the Cup Evening competitions through two entries, the first in the main race, “Dubai World Cup,” on the horse “Heart of Honor,” and the second in the “Emirates Derby” on the horse, “Brotherly Love.”

She explained that the horse, “Heart of Honor,” shows a distinguished level in the morning training, but his performance in the evening races differs, noting that he will run the race with new head equipment, in an attempt to improve his handling of the flying sand during the course of the race.

She added that the horse was accustomed to using this equipment and achieved good results with it, expressing her hope that it would contribute to providing a competitive performance, especially in light of the participation of strong horses, including “Forever Young,” who won the UAE Derby and Saudi Cup titles.

She confirmed that the horse “Brotherly Love” has shown remarkable development since his victory in the “Road to the Kentucky Derby” race, both on a physical and technical level, pointing out his readiness to compete despite the decline in his nominations in the global markets following the draw, and stressing that his actual chances remain better than those estimates.

Regarding the new equipment, she explained that it is “blinkers” equipped with eye barriers, aiming to reduce the effect of sand on the horse’s vision, especially since he faces difficulty in dealing with this factor, which may contribute to improving his momentum during the early stages of the race.

She added that dealing with this type of horse requires continuous effort throughout the race, due to its slow response, despite its high capabilities, which makes the task more challenging.
