Dubai World Ports Group and “Ports” inaugurate a 3 billion riyals of a sophisticated station in Jeddah

Dubai Ports World Group “DPDDRED” and the Ports General Authority (Ports) revealed the new and advanced southern container station in Jeddah Islamic Port, which represents a milestone in the expansion and development program implemented by Dubai World Ports with an investment of 3 billion Saudi riyals (800 million US dollars) to modernize the station, and contribute to enhancing the position of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a pioneering global commercial center.

This project, which took three years, transformed the southern container station into one of the most advanced and sustainable container stations in the region, while increasing the absorptive capacity by more than 1.8 million standard containers to 4 million stereotypes. This expansion paves the way towards achieving a future capacity of 5 million stereotypes, with the deployment of additional ships handling equipment according to demand growth.

Since Jeddah, in 1999, she became the first external station for the Dubai Ports Group “DBDDD” outside the UAE, and it plays a pivotal role in supporting regional trade. The recent expansion, which is carried out under a 30 -year -old construction, operation and transfer agreement, confirms the position of Jeddah as a strategic commercial gate, and supports Saudi Vision 2030 goals in promoting commercial and economic diversification.

Improving operational efficiency

The development of the station includes the inclusion of advanced automation and digitization systems to improve operational efficiency. In addition, electric powered automatic cranes were introduced, and the fleet of bridge cranes from 14 to 17 by the end of 2025, to 22 with the station’s expansion to 5 million stereotypes. In response to the increasing demand for damageable goods such as food and medicines, the station’s ability to absorb the refrigerated containers was expanded from 1,200 to 2,340 containers, ensuring the ideal conditions for temperature sensitive charges. The DPDDRDD is also developing a modern and developed facility to examine up to 75 refrigerated containers at the same time, which is the largest of its kind in the Kingdom. The station’s berth extends along a total length of 2,150 meters, including a 18 -meter deep water berth, allowing the accommodation of up to five huge container ships at the same time.

Global sustainability strategy
In implementation of the global sustainability strategy of Dubai World Ports Group, the Southern Container Station adopts a series of initiatives to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 50% during the next five years.

These initiatives include the conversion of squares and trucks to operate with electric power, installation of solar panels, and explore innovative solutions such as floating solar power platforms, as well as applying green buildings standards and water recycling systems. These efforts are expected to contribute significantly to reducing emissions and improving air quality, and dedicating the position of the “DB World” station as a pioneering model for sustainable port operations.

In addition to the station, the DP World Ports Group “DPDDRED” is investing in developing the Jeddah logistics complex with an area of ​​415,000 square meters. It is the largest integrated facility of its kind in the Kingdom, which will provide advanced services for storage, distribution and shipping, which enhances the position of Jeddah as a major center linking trade routes between Asia, Africa and Europe. By integrating with the station, the Jeddah Logistical Complex will simplify the transportation of goods and increase its efficiency, and it is scheduled to be completed in the second quarter of 2026.
