The Bithumb platform mistakenly distributed $44 billion worth of Bitcoin

A South Korean platform mistakenly distributed $44 billion worth of Bitcoin before recovering 99.7% of it.
The South Korean cryptocurrency trading platform, Bithumb, said today that it had distributed bitcoins worth more than $40 billion to customers as promotional rewards by mistake, which led to a sharp selling wave on the platform.
Beethum apologized for the error that occurred yesterday, Friday, and said that it had recovered 99.7% of the total 620,000 bitcoins, worth about $44 billion at current prices. Trading and withdrawal operations were restricted to 695 clients affected by the incident within 35 minutes of the incorrect distribution yesterday.
“We would like to make clear that this has nothing to do with external hacking or security breaches, and there are no issues with system security or customer asset management,” Beethum said in a statement.
