"Ida" It deposits Emirati seeds in the global cellar in Norway

Dubai, March 8 / WAM / The International Center for Salt Agriculture, “Ikba”, deposited 315 genetic samples of 110 plant types, including the Ghaf tree, in the Global Cellar of Seed in Safald in Norway, to be the first research center from the Emirates and the Arab Gulf to participate in this global initiative to preserve agricultural resources and ensure the sustainability of climate -resistant crops.
Dr. Tarifa Al -Zaabi, Director General of Gaza, said that this step represents a scientific and strategic achievement aimed at securing the agricultural heritage for future generations, noting that these seeds represent the fruit of contracts for research in plant breeding, biotechnology and environmental adaptation.
She added that the Genetics Bank in “Ikaba” includes more than 17,000 genetic samples of 325 plant species, which makes it among the most important global genetic banks specialized in crops that resist drought, salinity and heat, stressing that depositing these seeds in the global cellar for seeds enhances global food security and supports research efforts to find sustainable agricultural solutions.
The Global Cellar of Seed, located 1,300 km from the Arctic, is one of the safest facilities for preserving agricultural genetic resources, as it contains more than 1.3 million samples from 6,200 plant species, which makes it a “time capsule”, to protect crops from climate change, natural disasters and global crises.
