"Heritage" A global Emirati model for women’s empowerment in creative industries

Sharjah, on March 8 / WAM / The “Heritage Council for Contemporary Crafts” is highlighted as a leading Emirati model in empowering women in the heritage industries sector and advanced handicrafts, as it combines economic and social empowerment with the promotion of cultural identity.
Since its foundation in 2018, the Council has succeeded in providing a qualitative vision of women’s participation in creative industries, and providing a global experience that enables women and girls to enter the craft and design market with advanced skills.
Reem bin Karam, Director General of the Council, stressed that heritage women achieved a qualitative leap in the craft skills sector, and through creativity and innovations were able to integrate heritage and history in the spirit of contemporary and modernity, which made a “legacy” in his vision and mission an inspiring model for women and women’s institutions in all societies.
She emphasized the council’s keenness to achieve equality and equal opportunities in sectors that fall into the heart of global sustainable development goals, foremost of which is equality in supporting economic growth and equality in preserving material and cultural heritage, equality and partnership in sustaining resources and environmental protection, in addition to enhancing the role of women and their participation in supporting the growth of creative industries, indicating also focus through “pastry” practices, on maintaining the rights of all craftsmen in all stages of production This is one of the most important forms of equality that creators must have in their fields of work.
“My legacy” succeeded in consolidating his position on the international scene through a wide network of cooperatives that combine designers and craftsmen from several countries, including Jordan, Italy and Pakistan, as these partnerships contributed to exchanging experiences, transferring knowledge and enhancing craft skills in design, manufacturing, management and marketing.
In his most prominent international participation, “Iris” presented his works in “Design Miami – Shanghai”, the international platform specialized in design, where designs were presented embodied in the Emirati and Arab heritage with a contemporary vision, and “Idi” also offered an exclusive collection of designs that include 78 art pieces of jewelry, decoration, furniture, bags and other creative and artistic artifacts at the London Design Show, which is one of the largest Design exhibitions in the world, and participated in the “Milan Design Week 2022 and 2023”, one of the most important international events on the agenda of the world of art and design, as well as his participation in the Doha Week for Design, the single platform for contemporary Arabic design.
These achievements contributed to opening new fields, in which women have proven that they are a qualitative addition to the efforts of the whole world, and that equality in the unconventional sectors, as the Secretary -General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres said, “does not only mean justice but also a lever for growth and progress, and that societies that enhance diversity are more innovative and adaptive to the future.”
