100 times increased .. Ukraine is the largest arms importer in the world
The prestigious research institute stated that Ukraine’s imports of weapons increased by almost 100 times when compared to the previous five years.
Sebberry data indicates the size of the weapons that were delivered and not to their financial value.
Heavy weapons imports
Given that this size can vary greatly from year to year, researchers compare in this case the two periods extending from 2020 to 2024 with 2015 to 2019.
Ukraine now represents 8.8% of the total volume of heavy weapons imports, which include tanks, fighters, submarines and other similar military equipment.
Over a period of 5 years, India is ranked second with 8.3%, followed by Qatar 6.8%, and Pakistan with 4.6%.
The United States is at the forefront
According to the report, at least 35 weapons countries provided Ukraine, and the United States tops 45% of the total imported weapons, followed by Germany 12% and Poland (11%).
The US administration has recently stopped Ukraine’s military aid as part of President Donald Trump’s efforts to end the conflict.
Siery researchers pointed out that the uncertainty in US foreign policy is one of the main motives behind the increase in European countries for their defensive spending.
Although the global trend witnessed a decrease in the supply of weapons by at least 0.6%, European arms imports increased by 155% compared to the previous five years.
