Saudi researchers realize the restoration and treatment center of the “Founder” library

The King Abdulaziz General Library, since its establishment forty years ago, has activated the role of Saudi women, through the management of the center for restoring manuscripts, documents, pictures, rare books, maps, magazines, newspapers, and other heritage and historical materials, and protecting them from damage, corrosion, and deterioration, due to their historical importance. The center is supervised and a group of Saudi specialists work in the restoration of old materials, and in the field of documents and manuscripts, through the use of modern devices operating in this field.

The center, which was launched in the year 2022 AD, includes several sections, namely: the treatment and sterilization department, the Department of Manual Restoration and Documentation, the Automated and Landing Department, and the sewing and binding department. There are high -quality specifications in these sections, such as: ozone sterilization room, stifling and gravitational gases cabin, automatic restoration, lamination device, laser scissors, in addition to processing tables, lighting panels, oaks, and handcuffs. The restoration stages begin from receiving the material to be restored, until it is delivered in the correct way, with specialized save funds, to protect it from the environmental factors in the future.

The center provides sterilization, restoration and binding services for historical sources of manuscripts, documents, movies, and photographs, as well as services saved by microfille and digital. He also started receiving the external services for individuals and parties from restoration, treatment and preservation.

It is supervised by the Department of Cultural Heritage and the Restoration Center, Shaza Al -Ajmi, which provides workshops on the basis of the restoration of manuscripts, documents, and others. The center succeeded in sterilizing 61,000 materials and restoration (28661) rare scientific subjects of the origins of cultural heritage, including groups of photos, documents, maps, rare books and manuscripts. The center also restored (415) rare photos of the city of Jeddah, and the restoration of (183) rare books.
