Paris, March 13/ WAM/ Joao Almeida, Emirates XRG team, won an important victory in his career yesterday, as the 26 -year -old Portuguese made to win the fourth stage of the Paris -Nice race, which extended from Vichy to La Log de Gard with a distance of “163.4 km”.
The first-class rising road, which is 7 km long, was an ideal square for competition between the most prominent contestants, as the competition caught when Jonas Venjegard of the “Vocema-Lab” team launched a strong attack 2 km before the finish line, but Almeida responded in his usual way, speeding within the limited introduction group, maintaining the difference with the Danish by about 10 seconds.
At the end of 400 meters, Almeida set out from the back, to reduce the difference with Venjegard one meter after another, before finally overcoming it near the finish line, winning the sixteenth victory for the Emirates -XRG team this season.
It should be noted that this rising road itself witnessed a former victory in favor of the Emirates team, as Tadi Bugsher managed to win it in his endeavor to get the yellow shirt in the Paris-Nice 2023 race.
The contestants faced a severe stage in general, as rainy and cold weather conditions caused the race to stop at 46 km from the end, allowing the contestants the opportunity to change their clothes before the competition resumed.
Almeida expressed his happiness with this victory, noting that it was a difficult day, as this stage witnessed many events, and there was some snow on the path, but the team did not surrender, pointing out that the ascension was not sharp enough, and it was difficult to reduce the size of the group, but he did his best until he won.
Almeida is now fifth in the general classification, 37 seconds from the new race leader, Fenjegard, who won the shirt from his teammate Matteo Yorgenson.
On the other hand, Brandon McNuli Drag also performed a distinguished performance that ended the stage in the seventh place, to remain in the same position in the general classification by 58 seconds.
