A Tunisian minister reviews achievements in the field of women’s rights and calls for not to retreat from the gains

The Tunisian minister chairs her country’s delegation participating in the activities of the Women’s Status Committee, in its sixty -ninth session, held at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
In an interview with United Nations news, Al -Jabri said: “Tunisia is a pioneer in women’s rights, which is not new to it. Since the dawn of independence, the Personal Rights Magazine has been approved in Tunisia, as well as the constitution that provides for equality.”
She continued: “We are steadfast and will not back down from our rights that we have gained. I say to Tunisian and Arab women that we will take care of what has been accomplished and continue to work to raise the challenges to achieve what women aspire to in every inch of the land of Tunisia.”
Achievements
The Tunisian minister explained that she came to New York to review her country’s achievements in the field of women’s rights after thirty years since the adoption of the Bijin Declaration and curriculum. Among the most prominent of these achievements, according to the Tunisian Minister:
- Law 58 of 2017 on anti -violence against women.
- The law related to maternity and paternity, which was approved in 2024 and which spent the extension of the maternity vacation period for three months, and granting a holiday to fatherhood.
- The law on social protection of agricultural agricultural agriculture, which has been approved this year.
Government seeking to face challenges
Despite the achievements, Al -Jabri recognized the presence of challenges facing Tunisian women, especially in rural areas, stressing that the government is working to expand health and social coverage and provide safe transportation to women working in these areas, and integrate them into decent work.
At the end of her speech, Al -Jabri thanked the United Nations Women’s Authority for its continuous support for Tunisia in achieving its goals, stressing the continuation of work to achieve the best for women of Tunisia and the world.
A political declaration to support women
The meetings of the Women’s Settlement Committee will be held this year (between 10 and 21 March) with the celebration of the thirtieth anniversary of the Bayjin advertisement and a work curriculum, which developed a road map to empower women. On this occasion, member states unanimously adopted a political declaration calling for respect, protection and support for women’s rights, girls, gender equality and empowerment.
This year will also include an evaluation of the current challenges that affect the implementation of Beijing curriculum, gender equality, women’s empowerment, and its contribution to the full investigation of the 2030 sustainable development plan.
