The Security Council condemns violence in Syria and calls for the protection of civilians regardless of race or religion

In a presidential statement issued today, the Security Council also condemned the attacks that targeted the civil infrastructure, including hospitals.

The Council expressed the great concern about the impact of this violence on the escalation of tensions between the sects in Syria, and called on all parties to immediately stop violence and inflammatory activities and ensure the protection of all civilians, civil infrastructure and humanitarian operations.

The Council reaffirmed the need to adhere to respect for human rights and international humanitarian law in all circumstances, and urged all parties and states to ensure full and safe human access and without obstacle to those affected and humanitarian treatment for all individuals, including anyone who surrendered or threw their weapons.

The UN Security Council urged additional international support for the efforts of the United Nations and humanitarian organizations, in order to increase humanitarian support urgently for civilians in need of Syria.

The Security Council called on the interim authorities to protect all Syrians regardless of race or religion.

The council referred to Decision No. 2254 issued in 2015And his press statement issued on the seventeenth of December 2024, and reaffirmed his strong commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity of Syria and its territorial integrity.

He called on all countries to respect these principles and refrain from any action or intervention that may increase the stability of Syria.

Anti -terrorism

In its presidential statement, the Security Council stressed the importance of combating terrorism in Syria and expressed concern about the threat represented by foreign terrorist fighters, noting that this threat can affect all regions and member states.

The Council urged Syria to take decisive measures to address this threat, and stressed its obligations under Security Council resolutions related to fighting terrorism.

Accountability and justice

The Council referred to the announcement of the interim authorities in Syria to establish an independent committee to investigate violence against civilians and identify those responsible for it, and called for urgent, transparent, independent, neutral and comprehensive investigations, in line with international standards to ensure accountability and bring all perpetrators to justice.

He stressed the need for the interim authorities to be held accountable, the perpetrators of these mass killing. The Council also referred to the decision of the interim authorities to establish a civil security committee.

Welcome to condemning violence

The Council welcomed public condemnation from the interim Syrian authorities of violent incidents, and called for more measures to prevent its recurrence, including violence against persons on the basis of race, religion or belief, and to protect all civilians in Syria without discrimination.

The Council also stressed the need and urgency to perform fair and transparent and transparent reconciliations for the sustainable future in Syria. He called for the application of a political process led by a Syrian ownership and ownership, facilitated by the United Nations, based on the main principles of Resolution 2254.

This includes, as stated in the statement, protecting the rights of all Syrians regardless of race or religion. The members of the council added that this political process must meet the legitimate aspirations of all Syrians and protect them all and enable them to decide their future in a peaceful, independent and democratic manner.

The Security Council stressed the importance of the role of the United Nations in supporting the political transition with Syria’s leadership and ownership, and affirmed its support for the efforts of the United Nations Special Envoy in this regard.
