The Minister of Education in Libya is condemned for corruption and imprisonment for 3 years

In a prominent judicial development, the Tripoli Court of Appeal in Libya issued a ruling today, Sunday, to imprison the Minister of Education in the National Unity Government for a period of 3 years and 6 months, in addition to a fine and depriving him of his civil rights, after being convicted of corruption charges and abuse.

The ruling came after investigations by the Public Prosecution, which confirmed the Minister’s involvement in disturbing the principle.

The prosecution indicated that these abuses have damaged public money and negatively affected the education sector in Libya.

Initially, the Tripoli Court of Appeal rejected the lawsuit for not obtaining prior permission to file it, but the Public Prosecution appealed the decision before the Supreme Court, which accepted the appeal and ordered the review of the case..

After completing the trial, the court issued its decision to condemn the minister and impose the punishment against him.

The ruling sparked a wide discussion in the Libyan circles on the outbreak of corruption in government institutions, especially in the education sector, which suffers from great challenges.
