A “veteran” general leads the new “joint operations” in Japan

In light of the most cruel and complex security conditions, which the world has been witnessing since the end of World War II, Japan has a new leader of joint operations, enjoying the power of uniting the branches of the Japanese self -defense forces (land, air, and sea), and its leadership in peace time and times of emergency, taking into account the state of emergency in the neighboring Taiwan.
At the cabinet meeting, which was held a few days ago, the Japanese government, the deputy commander of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Self -Defense Forces, appointed General Nagumo Kenichro, as the first commander of the joint operations leadership.
The new joint operations command is scheduled to be launched on March 24, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense in Tokyo, with a crew of about 240 individuals, according to a spokesman for the Japanese Japanese Staff.
This appointment came, after the National Defense Strategy and the Defense Building Program – which were approved by the National Security Council and the Council of Ministers in December 2022 – called for enhancing the effectiveness of the joint operational status of the three Japanese self -defense forces, and the defense building program states that “a permanent joint headquarters will be established in order to build a system capable of conducting operations through the seams in all stages, from the time of peace to emergency, with the aim of enhancing the effectiveness of joint operations between each of the services of the defense forces Japanese self. ”
“In light of the increasing risk of the security environment surrounding Japan quickly, the Japanese Ministry of Defense and Self -Defense Forces will make its best to seek to establish a permanent joint headquarters as soon as possible.”
General Nagumo Kenishiro, 59, is from Yamagata Governorate in the region of “Tuoku” north Other positions, as Kenchiro, was the deputy commander of the Joint Chiefs of Staff since March 2023, and this position is the second largest regular officer in Japan, after the Japanese Air Defense Self -Defense Force Commander, Yoshida Yoshihidi. Kenchiro was widely seen as the most prominent candidate for the leadership of the New Joint Operations Authority, and according to the main Japanese newspapers that follow the activities of the Prime Minister, Kenchiro, as the Deputy Commander of the Joint Staff Staff, visited the Prime Minister’s office repeatedly, and submitted direct reports to both former Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and the current Prime Minister Shikiro Ishiba, and for this reason, he is prepared Kenchiro, great trusted by Shikiro, and other senior members of the administration.
The government spokesman said, “The government also decided to appoint the commander of the (Sasibu) area to the Japanese Navy Defense Force, Admiral Tawara Tatiki, as deputy commander of the new joint operations command,” the government spokesman said.
Local media stated that there is a “bitter” lesson behind the reorganization of the leadership structures in the Japanese Navy Self -Defense Force, in the wake of a triple disaster that took place on March 11, 2011, east of Japan, which is (an earthquake, a tunaami, and a nuclear accident), it became clear that General Oriki Ryichi, the chief of staff of the Japanese self -defense forces at the time, was burdened with a huge amount of work, and had to lead the defense forces. The entire Japanese self on the disaster relief mission, in addition to its responsibility for submitting reports to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense, and coordination with the American army.
Since then, there have been strong opinions among the national legisle and defense officials, according to which the joint chief of staff must distribute some of these roles to others.
The new headquarters will also play a coordination role in close cooperation with the American army, as the current Japanese regime lacks the ability to coordinate with the American leadership of the Indian and Pacific region (Indobacom).
Meanwhile, in July 2024, the US government announced that it would reshape the American forces in Japan as a head of the joint forces, and to reports to the “Indobacom” commander in Hawaii, in order to adapt to the new troop structure in Tokyo.
The US commander in Japan, a three -star general in Yokota in West Tokyo, does not have a leadership authority, and he must receive orders from the “endopakum” 6500 km.
Japan has requested to head a “four -star” rank, not a three -star general, the headquarters of the United States joint forces, just as it is in South Korea. On the “Diploma”
. The US forces in Japan will be reshaped as a head of the joint forces, and reports to the “endopicome” commander in Hawaii.
