Guterres: Pluralism is under an unprecedented attack and conflicts are exacerbated globally

This came in his speech at the University of Lofen in Belgium, where the universities of Lofen and Lovin granted the United Nations honorary doctorate degree, on the 600th anniversary of the founding of the University of Loufin.
The Secretary -General stressed the importance of the renewal that is considered “The driving force of the Charter of the Future”Adding that “Pluralism should be the engine of this renewal.”.
Four areas through which today’s threats can be overcome by standing one row and formulating common solutions, the first of which is: “We must find common solutions to peace in our divided world.”Adding that “Peace is scarce around the world”.
He gave examples of a number of conflicts, including Gaza, where he said that since the horrific terrorist attacks launched by Hamas on October 7, the Israeli military operations that followed that unprecedented level of death and destruction were unleashed.
He added that he was angry about the Israeli attacks on Gaza this week, which killed hundreds.
He renewed the expression of deep sadness and the great shock when he learned of the killing of a United Nations employee and the injury of five others when a two -year -old hospitality house in Deir Al -Balah was bombed, adding that it is horrific that five others from UNRWA staff were killed this week, bringing the number of United Nations employees to 284.
Guterres said: “The ceasefire finally allowed a degree of relief to alleviate the horrific suffering of the Palestinians in Gaza, and the satisfaction of the Israeli families who recently welcomed the hostages returning to their homes after more than a year of suffering and despair. All of this has been destroyed now. The escalation is not the solution. There is no military solution to this conflict.”.
He strongly called for the restoration of the ceasefire, the re -introduction of humanitarian aid without obstacle, and the release of the remaining hostages immediately and without restriction or condition.
He said it “In addition to ending this terrible war, we have to lay the foundations of permanent peace through immediate and irreversible steps towards a two -state solution where Israel and Palestine live alongside peace and security, in line with international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, and Jerusalem is the capital of both countries.”.
Common solutions
The Secretary -General of the United Nations talked about the conflict in Sudan, saying: “The country is sweeping bloodshed, displacement and famine.”.
He stressed that the warring parties must take immediate measures to protect civilians, support human rights, stop hostilities, and bring peace, and that mechanisms for monitoring human rights and local and international investigation must be allowed to document what is happening on the ground.
He indicated that “European proverb is a strong reminder of our common responsibility towards the most vulnerable people of the world, and evidence that isolationism is an illusion, and it is not a solution at all.”.
Guterres explained that the threats facing pluralism can be overcome by finding common solutions to reduce inequality and ensure financial justice for all.
He referred to what it included Future Charter From an invitation to stimulate a comprehensive economic to help countries invest in sustainable development goals.
As for the third fields that he called for focusing on, it is to enhance pluralism in the future by finding common solutions to climate work before it is too late, stressing that “Climate Solidarity is a moral commitment, and the issue of survival for all of us”.
Guterres said: “Fourth and finally, we can overcome the threats facing pluralism by ensuring technology support for human rights and its dignity for all.”.
He stressed that humans should always retain control, guiding international law, human rights and moral principles, “It must serve human technology, not the other way around.”.
He pointed out that every generation faces decisive moments, however, “None of the generations have our tools, knowledge and global awareness.”.
He urged those present in celebrating to be in the front rows for human dignity, rejecting indifference, choosing hope, confronting injustice, and defending the truth.
