The International Investigation Committee calls for supporting the transitional process in Syria and ending sanctions

This came in a statement issued today, Wednesday, at the end of a visit Committee To Damascus, during which he met Pinero and the committee member Hani Majali, the Foreign Minister Asaad Al -Shaibani and other representatives of the Syrian business conducting authorities, in addition to the victims’ associations and their families, human rights organizations, humanitarian organizations, lawyers, and representatives of the diplomatic corps.

Mr. Peniro expressed the pleasure of the committee continuously its communication with the Syrian authorities, and discussing human rights issues “In an open and transparent way.”

During the visit, the committee – formed by the Human Rights Council in 2011 – witnessed the devastation that was left by the 13 -year -old conflict in Harasta, Douma, Zabadani, Daraya and other sites in the Damascus countryside, highlighting the deteriorating humanitarian and economic situation.

The committee indicated in Its statement Until 90 percent of the Syrians live on less than two dollars per day, and that the sectoral sanctions imposed on the previous government are in response to its collective atrocities. “The Syrians are now hindering the reconstruction of their country.”

In this context, Mr. Majali said: “We met the actors in the humanitarian field who explained to us how the sanctions not only hinder the delivery of aid and investment, but even financial transfers from individual Syrians who are eager to rebuild their homes and their lives. The recent decision that the European Union made to suspend a set of sanctions is a positive step that must be pushed to more reviews of these sanctions. It has become a suspension or end of the sectoral sanctions more urgent than ever. The economist nourishes the violence.

Meetings with the National Investigation Committee

The International Committee said that its visit “comes two weeks after the death and injury of hundreds of civilians in retaliatory attacks in the coastal areas”, in which the committee is currently investigating.

She expressed her pleasure to meet the independent National Investigation Committee, which was established by business conducting authorities to consider these events, and exchange experiences on good practices of independent investigations.

Majali said that the commitment of members of the National Investigation Committee “By guaranteeing accountability and revealing the truth with integrity and building confidence is reassuring.” The committee encouraged, “It is the first of its kind in Syria, to work as possible as possible transparency and spread its results in public.”

He added that her mission is crucial in holding those responsible for those actions. He said: “The result can be a clear deterrent to any repetition, and an important step in rebuilding confidence in a country that respects the rule of law.”

Popular initiatives

In the context of its efforts to end the violence, the committee encouraged the work of conducting business to support popular initiatives aimed at restoring social harmony in various towns and cities, and to benefit from the wealth of knowledge and experience of Syrian civil society.

The committee expressed its satisfaction with the clear commitment from the Shaibani Foreign Minister and other officials “By building Syria, human rights respect, protect and achieve human rights, and enhance transitional justice to address the legacy of the repression left by the previous regime.”

The committee clarified that all the Syrians, who spoke to them, shed light on the tremendous challenges facing their country, and their intention to address them.

In this regard, Peniro said: “I was affected by all the Syrians who shared their stories with us. They deserve all the support possible to build a future of peace and dignity.”
