The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council welcomes the Security Council’s adoption of a resolution condemning the Iranian attacks on the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Jordan

The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassem Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, welcomed the Security Council’s decision to condemn the treacherous Iranian military operations against the GCC countries and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
He stressed that this international condemnation, which came with an unprecedented international consensus, is blatant evidence of Iran’s violation of international and international laws, norms, and conventions, by targeting civilians, civilian objects, and infrastructure in the GCC states and Jordan.
He pointed out that the adoption of the resolution by 136 countries indicates the international community’s complete belief in the grave violation posed by Iranian attacks on the sovereignty of the GCC countries and Jordan, and on their legal right to respond, in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, which guarantees the right of self-defense for countries individually and collectively in the event of aggression, and to take all measures that preserve their sovereignty, security and stability.
He explained that the Security Council resolution affirmed its strong support for the territorial integrity of all GCC countries and Jordan, and for their sovereignty and political independence. The resolution also pointed to the importance of the Gulf region for international peace and security and its vital role in the stability of the global economy and reaffirms the right of navigation for ships heading to and from all ports and facilities of coastal countries that are not a party to the hostilities.
He expressed his appreciation to the delegates of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Jordan for presenting this resolution and mobilizing international efforts to approve it today.
