UNICEF .. 14 million children are at risk of hunger and malnutrition

The United Nations Children’s Agency (UNICEF) has warned that at least 14 million children face hunger and increased nourishment or death this year, at a time when major international donors such as the United States reduced aid budgets.
The Agency urged charitable governments and institutions to contribute to its children’s feeding fund to avoid a famine wave.
UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell pointed out that significant progress in eliminating hunger among children since the beginning of the century, but these gains may fade quickly.

Investment returns

“Good nutrition is the basis of the child’s steadfastness and growth, with remarkable investment returns,” said in a statement to UNICEF.
She added that “the returns will be measured in families, societies and stronger countries and in a more stable world.”
Since US President Donald Trump returned to the White House two months ago, the government efficiency administration (DOGE), which is informally led by its billionaire advisor Illon Musk, reduced the powers of the US Agency for International Development (USD).
A judge ordered the suspension of this procedure, but Foreign Minister Marco Rubio confirmed that the American Agency for International Development is to cancel 83% of the programs of its budget of $ 42 billion.

Freezing international aid

Other major donor countries, such as Britain, recently reduced or freezed international aid in their endeavor to control deficit while increasing defense spending.
But Russell warned that 2.4 million children suffering from acute malnutrition would be deprived of “ready -made therapeutic foods” provided by UNICEF for the remainder of the year.
It may be closed up to 2,300 centers that provide biomedic care for children who face famine, and 28,000 UNICEF nutrition centers are at risk.
Russell expected that 14 million children would face “interruptions in nutrition services and support them” this year.
She said, “The financing crisis comes at a time of unprecedented needs for children who are still facing record levels of displacement, new and extended conflicts, and the outbreaks of diseases and deadly consequences for climate change.”
