How did a 250 -year -old building in Tarot turn into the first heritage studio?
Ali Al -Marhoun, who is in charge of the building, explained that this transformation represents a milestone in the history of the ancient house, which is located in the Al -Deira archaeological neighborhood of Tarut.
He added: “Today we sit in the house of Al -Tarifi, an ancient archaeological house, who is approximately 250 years old. We decided to turn part of it to the first heritage studio in Tarut, and perhaps in the entire Qatif Governorate.”
An important place
Al -Marhoun confirmed that the building, registered by the Heritage Authority in the Eastern Region within the category “B”, occupies an important position after the Castle of Tarot.
He pointed out that the building consists of two floors and a surface, the first floor consists of a council, a kitchen, a yard or a hop, a room, and a water cycle, while the second floor consists of 3 rooms, the area of the house is small, as is the previous homes with an area of approximately 160 and 200 square meters.
He added: “We have converted monsters, or what is currently known as the hall, into a tourist traditional studio, which is the first of its kind here.”
Archaeological character
Al -Marhoun pointed out that this transformation did not change the character of the archaeological building, which still maintains its ancient architectural details, from the “Draish” windows designed to enter light and air, and the “scales” that were used as treasury, traditional wooden doors, and “parchment” that were entering the air to the house, in addition to the decorations and plastic arts that decorate the walls.
And on the roof of the building, the mortgagee explained that he still maintains its old components, from palm trunks, then the “gandal” “imported Indian wood”, to the “bustle” that replaced them in the past fifty years.
And the mortgaged that the idea of converting the building into a heritage studio came with the aim of defining the new generations of what the ancestors was, and preserving this valuable legacy. Adding that the building, which opened its doors on the first of Ramadan, receives daily about 50 visitors, which reflects the increasing interest in heritage and the desire to explore the history of the region.
