Ali Al -Abadi, employee of the Agriculture Department of the Guidance Unit at the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, stressed the need to follow a accurate scientific approach in combating the pests of Sidr trees, warning that the random use of pesticides leads to counterproductive results and increases the difficulty of controlling the long term.
Al -Abadi explained, during the participation of the Ministry’s branch in the eastern provincial in the “Sidr” event in the Al -Rams project, that their participation aims to educate farmers about the importance of accurate diagnosis of pests before resorting to pesticides.

The risk of a fruit fly

He pointed out that the fruit fly is one of the most dangerous pests, and that its control begins to manage the previous crop, then use pesticides specialized in specific stages “the beginning of flowering and the fruit contract”, and the use of the fisheries to monitor the presence of the fly and determine the need for spraying.

Al -Abadi said: “He advised to change the type of pesticide used from one spray.” He explained that “the use of the same dose and the same active substance leads to the emergence of generations of resistance from the lesion, which makes its control more difficult in the future.”

He warned against the danger of using the same pesticide at the same dose frequently, stressing that this leads to the emergence of resistance generations that make control more difficult. He advised to change the type of pesticide between the bribes.
Al -Abadi stressed that the precise diagnosis of the existence of pests is the first step towards effective and sustainable fighting, calling on farmers to benefit from the experiences of specialists.
