المملكة: In the name of 75 countries .. The Kingdom provides a statement on the protection of children in the cybersecurity
The permanent representative of the Kingdom to the United Nations and international organizations in Geneva, Ambassador Abdul Mohsen bin Khezhala, delivered a statement on behalf of 75 countries, during the works of the fifty -eighth session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, which focused on the importance of capacity building in order to protect children in the cybersecurity.
The statement stressed that protecting children in cyberspace is not only a technical issue, but rather a strategic investment in a safer and sustainable future.
This came in light of the release of His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister – may God protect him – the World Summit for Child Protection in the Cyber Space, as the first world summit of its kind with its goals aimed at unifying international efforts, and enhancing the global response to the threats facing children in the cybersecurity,
Taking digital risks
The statement pointed out that many countries, especially those facing development challenges, still lack the resources and infrastructure that enable them to address the digital risks to children, which requires enhancing capacity building and blocking these gaps through international support.
The statement called for uniting international efforts and strengthening partnerships between governments and the private sector to develop practical and sustainable solutions to protect children, and also urged the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights to provide technical assistance to needy countries, including developing national legislation, training law enforcement workers, and establishing safe mechanisms to report.
Collective responsibility
The statement was definitely asserted that protecting children in cyberspace is a collective responsibility that requires an urgent international commitment to ensure that the digital world is a safe environment in which children’s rights are respected and their dignity is preserved.
This statement comes as an affirmation of the Kingdom’s efforts and constant interest in protecting children and enhancing their security and safety in the digital environment.
