The Iranian president is dismissing his deputy because of a “entertainment trip”

On Saturday, Iranian President Masoud Beshskian dismissed his deputy in charge of parliamentary affairs after he had a trip to the Antarctic, at a time when the Iranians are suffering a stifling economic crisis and standard inflation.
A recently published photo on social media platforms, Vice President Shahram Derry, near a tourist ship that has been displaying luxury trips to the Antarctic.

Economic pressure

The Iranian president wrote in a letter published by the official news agency (IRNA) on Saturday: “It became clear to us that you were on an entertainment trip to the Antarctic, and in a situation where economic pressure is still many on people, the expensive travel for official officials, even if it was at the expense of personal expenses, cannot be defended and justified.”

The agency added that, accordingly, “the Iranian president has exempted his assistant to parliamentary affairs, Shahram Derry, from his duties and position.”
The government was severely criticized after the publication of the photo, so that many supporters of Bazshkian demanded that they dismiss the vice president.
On March 26, IRNA reported a member of the Derry office, that the latter made the aforementioned trip at a time when he was “any responsibilities” in the government.
This issue constitutes a new severe blow to the Iranian president, who was elected last year, with a promise to revive the economy and improve the livelihood of citizens.
And at the beginning of March, the Iranian Shura Council, the Minister of Economy, Abdel Nasser, is removed from the sharp decline in the value of the Iranian riyal against the dollar, and the high rates of inflation.
