An Indian -Indian Sri Lankan cooperation to convert “Trinkomali” Sri Lankan into a regional energy center

The Ministry of Investment in the UAE, the Indian Ministry of Petroleum and Gas and the Ministry of Energy in Sri Lanka signed a tripartite understanding note to cooperate in developing the Treenkomali Sri Lankan city to become a regional energy center in South Asia, and contribute to enhancing energy security in Sri Lanka.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Khaled Nasser Al -Amri, the UAE ambassador to Sri Lanka, Santosh J., the High Commissioner for India to Sri Lanka, and Professor KTM Audianga Hemapala, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy at Sri Lanka.
The Memorandum of Understanding establishes a framework for cooperation in developing many infrastructure and energy projects in Trinkumali, including the renewal and development of Treenkomali Tanks farm, ship fuel supply initiatives, and the development of a new refinery project.
The UAE, India and Sri Lanka tasked with its approved agencies – respectively, the Abu Dhabi Ports Group, the Indian Oil Company Ltd., and the Ceylon Petroleum Company – to establish a joint project to supervise the implementation of the refinery project.
The memorandum also includes the creation of a dual -directional pipeline for the transfer of oil between India and Sri Lanka, which contributes to enhancing regional logistical capabilities and fuel security guarantee.
Mohamed Hassan Al -Suwaidi, Minister of Investment, said that this memorandum confirms the UAE’s commitment to strategic regional partnerships that contribute to strengthening diplomatic relations, stimulating long -term economic flexibility, and developing sustainable infrastructure.
He added, that the UAE will work with partners in India and Sri Lanka to launch the potential of Trinkomali to become a major gateway to energy and logistics services in the South Asian region.
For his part, Vikram Missri, Permanent Secretary of the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that this initiative represents a pivotal step that gives a real strategic dimension to the relations between India and the UAE, and aims to strengthen their partnership with Sri Lanka, noting that the Memorandum of Understanding confirms the UAE’s commitment to cooperation with international partners to enable strategic cooperation relations that achieve growth and prosperity in the long run.
Maysary pointed out that the UAE confirms, through its contribution to developing regional infrastructure and enhancing energy security, its pivotal role in supporting economic stability and joint progress across the border..
