Emirates Airlines joins the Corporation of the Ring Economy in the Aviation Sector

Emirates Airlines joined the “Aviation Circularying Circulity” coalition, along with the company “SL Metals”, with the aim of activating the concepts of the circular economy in the aviation sector.
The joining of the carrier is a step that reflects the continuous growth of the coalition, and also enhances its commitment to accelerate carbon removal efforts from supply chains through the application of the principles of the highly valuable ring economy, after the coalition launched the 2050 Road Road Map, announced in November 2024.
Emirates entertained recycling and circular economy solutions as part of its sustainability strategy, from reusing the components of the internal aircraft cabinets, and choosing more sustainable materials in its products, to initiatives on flights and programs to reduce waste, the carrier continues to search for innovative ways to reduce its environmental imprint.
By joining the circular economy coalition in the aviation sector, Emirates Airlines will contribute to strengthening circular innovations in the aviation sector, supporting the growing cooperative momentum of the coalition.
“SL Metals”, the company that specializes in the distribution of aluminum alloys, based in Singapore, is a strategic partner in this path, as a wide range of aluminum alloys products provides multiple sectors such as aviation, fine engineering, semi -conductors, and others in the Asia Pacific and Middle East regions, and will contribute to joining the coalition in supporting the efforts made To adopt more sustainable practices in supply chains, and accelerate the frequency of the circular economy for the materials used in the aviation sector.
Ahmed Safa, Head of the Engineering and Maintenance Department of the Emirates Group, said that the aviation sector must reconsider how materials are used across the various stages of the plane life cycle, from manufacturing to their exit from service, and with the increasing number of planes that come out of the service, the urgent need for sustainable solutions to address the end of the aircraft life is increasing.
He added that Emirates Airlines is seeking to explore new ways to prolong its fleet, and allows joining the circular economy coalition in the aviation sector an opportunity to cooperate in sustainable initiatives that contribute to reducing waste, enhancing efficiency, and speeding up the turning of the aviation sector towards adopting the circular economy approach.
Vital
For his part, Sam Tan Yi Leong, CEO and CEO of “SL Metals”, said that aluminum plays a vital role in the aviation sector, as is the case in many other industries, which makes it responsible and effective use of materials is necessary.
He added that the production of aluminum is responsible for 3% of the global artificial carbon dioxide emissions, which makes the adoption of sustainable practices through the supply chain more important, and through the coalition, the company is looking to develop best practices in the use of aluminum and support initiatives that contribute to building a more sustainable and flexible supply chain for the aviation sector.
Emirates Airlines is the second air carrier to join the coalition, which reflects the increasing awareness in the sector of the importance of the circular economy to achieve the goals of carbon removal.
The circular economy coalition in the aviation sector includes a network of institutions committed to building a circular economy in the aviation sector, and its task is to collect the main concerned parties, including airlines, organizational bodies, manufacturers, suppliers and financial institutions, to contribute to the development and enhancement of new paths that accelerate carbon removal through high -value circular solutions within the global supply chain.
