France may recognize a Palestinian state in June

French President Emmanuel Macron said today, Wednesday, that Paris may recognize a Palestinian state in June, adding that some Middle East countries may recognize their role in Israel.
“We have to move towards recognizing the Palestinian state. We will do so in the next few months. I do not do it to please anyone. I will do it because it will be appropriate at some point,” he said during an interview on France 5.
He added, “Because I also want to participate in collective efforts, the defenders of Palestine were able to recognize Israel for their role, which is not a matter of many of them.”
The Palestinian state got the recognition of nearly 150 countries, although most of the major Western powers did not take this step, including the United States, Britain, France, Germany and Japan.
“We are aiming to organize a conference in June in cooperation with Saudi Arabia, so that we can put the final touches to move towards mutual recognition from several countries,” Macron said.
