The protest was organized by the “Close the tap” group, which believes that the presence of the American electric car manufacturer pose a threat to water supply in one of the most dry areas in Germany.
Protests against the “Tesla” factory in Berlin
“This factory poses a threat to groundwater and drinking water,” said the group spokeswoman, Karo Weber.
The police reported that the protest was peaceful. Participants say their main motivation is a plan to expand its 300 hectare factory location in the small town of Gaunaida, to include a shipping warehouse and logistical areas.
Activists opposed to Tesla also express their concern about further removal of forests in the region, which led some of them last year to establish a camp inside the forest near the factory, which is the only factory for the company in Europe.
Criticism against Tesla in Germany
Tesla responded to environmental criticism by emphasizing that its water consumption has decreased, and that it recycles up to 100% of the plant drainage in the factory.

The factory, which opened in 2022, has witnessed repeated protests over the years.
The protests are directly focused on Tesla CEO, Elon Musk, who sparked controversy because of his divisive political statements, and his role as a major adviser to US President Donald Trump.
