The British Parliament approves an emergency law to save "British Steel"
London, April 13 / WAM / The British Parliament passed an emergency law on Saturday, granting the government wide powers to control the company “British Steel”, the last company in the country capable of producing steel from iron ore.
The Skonhorest Factory of the company provides the vast majority of the railway rods in Britain.
This legislation was presented in response to the “British Steel” plan to close the smelting ovens in Skonhorp, on the pretext that incurred unbearable financial losses.
In an extraordinary session on Saturday, which is the first in more than forty years, the parliament council returned from the Easter holiday to accelerate the approval of the “Special Procedures for the Steel Industry” law, which received royal approval on the same day.
The new law gives the Minister of Business direct powers to interfere in steel production operations, orders to buy raw materials, ensure the payment of workers ’wages, and even confiscate assets” using force if necessary. “
