UAE and Japan hold the second ministerial meeting of comprehensive strategic partnership

Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al -Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and the Special Envoy of Japan, visited a work to Japan during the period from April 13 to 16, 2025, during which he presided over the UAE side at the second ministerial meeting of the comprehensive strategic partnership of the two countries, and conducted a number of bilateral meetings with officials in the Japanese government alongside some partners from the private sector, in the presence of the State Ambassador to Japan, Shehab Ahmed Al -Fahim.

During the visit, Dr. Sultan Al -Jaber also met Takishi Iyaya, the Japanese Foreign Minister, and His Excellency expressed his appreciation for the level of distinguished relations that bring the UAE to Japan, stressing that it is witnessing a continuous development in the framework of the comprehensive strategic partnership.

The meeting discussed the developments of the implementation of joint projects, programs and initiatives, in addition to ways to expand the horizons of bilateral cooperation in various fields of common concern. The two sides chaired the second ministerial meeting of the comprehensive strategic partnership with the participation of work teams, and discussions included business outputs for the main axes, including: trade, investment, energy, and industry.

The agenda of the visit also included bilateral meetings with Kelman Yuji Moto, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Yoshaimasa Hayshi, chief minister of cabinet, and the number of members of Parliament, where during these meetings, discussion and discussion of opportunities and areas of economic cooperation in a number of vital areas, including trade, investment, energy, renewable energy, industry, advanced technology, and other priority areas, In order to achieve common interests and benefit the two friendly countries and achieve sustainable economic growth.

He also met the CEOs of the Bank of Japan for International Cooperation, “Mitsoy” companies, “Inbucks”, “Jira” and “Mitsubishi”, where ways to enhance existing partnerships and explore new opportunities for private sector cooperation in the two countries were discussed.

The visit witnessed the announcement of a sales agreement to supply 0.6 million tons annually of gas from the Ruwais LNG project, low -emissions between ADNOC Gas and Mitsoy, for a period of 15 years, which supports the development of Emirati Japanese partners in the field of energy, and enhances ADNOC as a major shareholder in ensuring global energy security by providing reliable supplies of low -carbon fuel. The Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry also welcomed the arrival of the low carbon ammonia shipment that was facing Abu Dhabi by the company “Vertigloop” using the techniques of “carbon capture and storage”, and supplied it via ADNOC. Note that this approved ammonia will be used to generate clean electricity in Japan through the first turbine in the world to work in full in Ammonia.

It is worth noting that the total trade exchange between the two countries in 2024 amounted to about 49.6 billion dollars (includes oil products), while non -oil trade exchange reached about $ 17.5 billion, achieving slight growth (1.2%) compared to 2023.
The UAE is the first commercial partner of Japan in terms of exports and imports in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, as the country receives 52% of Japan’s exports to the GCC countries. On the other hand, Japan is the ninth largest commercial partner for the UAE in the world.
