"Industry and advanced technology" Organizes an introductory meeting for the “Made in the Emirates” platform in Umm Al Quwain

Al Quwain, February 12, 2017 – The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology organized today at the Umm Al Quwain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in cooperation with the Umm Al Quwain Government, represented by the Department of Economic Development, the Umm Quwain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Free Trade Zone, and the ADNEC Group, an introductory meeting about the “Make in the Emirates” platform, as part of the promotional tours organized by the Ministry in preparation for the fifth session of the “Make in the Emirates” platform, scheduled for the period from 4 to 7 May next, with the participation of government agencies and companies. The meeting was attended by His Excellency Osama Amir Fadel, Assistant Undersecretary for the Industry Accelerators Sector at the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, His Excellency Sheikh Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al Mualla, Director General of the Department of Economic Development in Umm Al Quwain, Sheikh Mansour bin Ibrahim Al Mualla, Executive Director of the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, His Excellency Ahmed Obaid Ibrahim Al Ali, Director General of the Umm Al Quwain Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Her Excellency Aisha Rashid Laytim, Member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors and Chairperson of the Umm Al Quwain Businesswomen’s Council, along with members of the Board of Directors. The Chamber, and Sumaya Al Marzouqi, Director of the “Make in the Emirates” Event Department at the ADNEC Group, in addition to representatives of industrial and investment entities, and a number of entrepreneurs and manufacturers in the emirate.

The meeting activities began with the presentation of a documentary film that reviewed the achievements of previous sessions of the platform, and the tangible results they achieved in supporting national industrialization. Then examples of success stories were presented that embodied the transformation of the “Make in the Emirates” goals into production projects and investment opportunities on the ground.

This was followed by the participation of representatives of the Ministry of Industry, who confirmed that the “Make in the Emirates” initiative represents one of the basic pillars of supporting the path of industrial development in the country, by empowering local manufacturers, strengthening partnerships between the government and private sectors, and attracting qualitative investments in priority sectors, which contributes to raising the added value of the national product and enhancing its presence in regional and global markets.

Fatima Hawkal, Head of the Department of Industrial Sustainability Policies Department, and Fatima Issa Al Muhairi, Director of the Ministry of Science and Technology Adoption and Development, indicated that the platform has contributed since its launch to providing industrial procurement opportunities worth billions of dirhams for thousands of products, in support of localizing value chains and enhancing national industrial integration, in line with the objectives of the National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology.

They presented to the audience the foundations of industrial policies that support sustainability, and their role in enhancing the efficiency of using resources and expanding local manufacturing opportunities, in line with the country’s trends towards building a sustainable industrial economy based on innovation and clean technology, in addition to the transformation that the industrial sector is witnessing in the country from traditional models to advanced manufacturing based on digital solutions and artificial intelligence, reviewing initiatives that support the transfer of knowledge, enhancing technological partnerships, and raising industrial productivity.

For her part, Sumaya Al Marzouqi, Director of the “Make in the Emirates” event at the ADNEC Group, presented the most prominent updates witnessed by the exhibition in its fifth session, noting the increase in the total area of ​​the exhibition, in addition to the creation of new areas within the general plan, in response to the increasing demand and success achieved by the fourth session of Make in the Emirates.

The organization of this meeting reflects the keenness of the concerned authorities to enhance the participation of industrial establishments in Umm Al Quwain within major national initiatives, and to consolidate the emirate’s role as an active partner in the process of sustainable industrial development, in a way that supports economic diversification and raises the industrial sector’s contribution to the gross domestic product.
