Specialists are looking to standardize the shortcuts of technical terms in the Arabic language

Today, Thursday, the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Commission “Sayya” organized a meeting in cooperation with the King Salman International Complex for Arabic, to discuss the shortcuts of technical terms in the Arabic language, with the participation of a number of specialists from the universities of the Kingdom, and a selection of experts in the fields of technology and language.
During the meeting, the challenges and opportunities related to the use of technical shortcuts in the Arabic language were discussed, with a focus on the term “artificial intelligence” in terms of its accuracy and linguistic safety.
As well as reviewing the most prominent possible alternatives to it, in a way that contributes to unifying the terms used, and enhancing the presence of the Arabic language in modern technical fields.
A unified linguistic framework
The meeting came out with a set of proposed recommendations aimed at setting a unified linguistic framework for technical terms, and activating cooperation between the concerned authorities, to adopt these recommendations in media, institutional and academic discourse in a way that enhances efforts to Arabize terms, and keep pace with accelerated technical progress.

This meeting comes within the efforts to enhance integration between technical sciences and linguistic sciences, and to consolidate the Kingdom’s entrepreneurial role in linking the Arabic language to digital development paths, in order to achieve the targets of Vision 2030.
