Followers of television drama have good news about the start of work on the third season of the series “Big Little Lies,” after years of speculation about the possibility of its return, especially after the end of its second season in 2019, without clear confirmation of its continuation.

This confirmation came from the two stars: Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, who are executive producers of the work, as they confirmed that the project has entered the development stage, in a step that revives one of the most prominent dramatic works, which has achieved critical and public success since its first season was shown.

According to new data, the third season will be based on a new literary work by novelist Liane Moriarty, who is preparing to publish a novel under the title “Big Little Truths,” which will be published on August 25, 2026. This novel is the first official sequel to the original “Big Little Lies” novel, which formed the basis of the first season of the series.

This trend comes after the second season relied on dramatic expansion outside the literary text, due to the lack of a second part of the novel at the time, which made the new season more closely linked to the literary source, compared to its predecessor.

The story is expected to return to the coastal community of Monterey in California, where it follows the developments in the lives of the main characters years after the previous events. Preliminary information indicates that the children of the characters, who were children in the first seasons, are now in the teenage stage, which opens the way for new dramatic lines that address the challenges and complexities of this stage.

The plot also includes mystery and suspense, with unexpected events escalating within the local community, which re-raises questions about secrets that were not fully revealed in the past, and their continuing impact on the relationships between the characters.

Regarding the staff, reports suggest that the main names who participated in previous seasons will return, but this has not been announced definitively. So far, there is no official date for the third season to be shown on screen, but the release of the novel, in August 2026, indicates that the television work may be delayed a little, pending the conversion of the text into an integrated screenplay.
