Cairo, May 1 / WAM / with a constant follow -up of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak (Mother of the Emirates), President of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation, the UAE represented by the General Women’s Union participated in a high -level meeting of permanent delegates to the League of Arab States to discuss the official start plan for the “Arab Observatory for Women Development Economic” project, which was held at the headquarters The League of Arab States in the Arab Republic of Egypt, within the framework of following up the implementation of the decision issued by the 33rd session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the level of the Arab Summit in 2024, regarding the approval of the initiative submitted by the UAE on the “Arab Observatory for Women Development Economically”.
The UAE delegation headed at the meeting held at the headquarters of the University’s General Secretariat in Cairo, His Excellency Noura Khalifa Al -Suwaidi, Secretary -General of the General Women’s Union, and the participation of Eng. Ghalia Ali Al -Mannai, Head of Strategic and Development Affairs in the General Women’s Union.
The meeting witnessed the presence of His Excellency Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary -General, Head of the Social Affairs Sector – the League of Arab States, His Excellency Maryam Al -Kaabi, the UAE ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt and its permanent representative to the university, and a number of ambassadors of Arab countries.
This meeting comes within the framework of supporting joint Arab action and enhancing the role of women in achieving sustainable development, as the League of Arab States, with the active participation of member states, works to activate regional mechanisms that support the economic empowerment of women.
This initiative reflects a collective commitment to enhance the role of women in the Arab economy, through qualitative initiatives that contribute to dealing with structural challenges, and establishes sustainable systems that enhance women’s participation in development paths, in line with the priorities of the Arab development agenda (2023-2028) and sustainable development goals 2030.
In this context, His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary -General, Head of Social Affairs, explained that the initiative reflects the ambitious vision of the United Arab Emirates in supporting women’s leadership and enhancing their contribution to the economy, by establishing an integrated regional system that contributes to expanding the opportunities for growth and economic empowerment of women in Arab countries.
His Excellency Noura Khalifa Al -Suwaidi, General Secretary of the General Women’s Union, said that from the United Arab Emirates’s steadfast commitment to support and promote joint Arab action, which is considered the basis for achieving integration and sustainable development in the Arab world, the UAE initiative to launch a leading project at the region’s level, which is the “Arab Observatory for Women Economic Development” to create a qualitative shift in the reality of Arab women by establishing the first integrated system to involve all parties related to Arab countries in support Business and economy growth for Arab women.
Her Excellency clarified that this initiative was discussed during the forty -third session of the Arab Women’s Committee of the League of Arab States, headed by the Sultanate of Oman, and the initiative was included within the agenda of the ministerial meeting of that session, and discussions resulted in the issuance of Resolution No. (18) of the Women’s Committee at the ministerial level, which stipulated approval of the UAE initiative and recommended that it be submitted to the Council of the League of Arab States at the summit level for official approval, and during the Arab summit in Bahrain was approved The establishment of the observatory on May 16, 2024.
For its part, Eng. Ghalia Ali Al -Mannai, Head of Strategic and Development Affairs in the General Women’s Union, during the meeting, reviewed the ambitious vision and strategic goals of the “Arab Observatory for Women Development Economically”, and the future trends of expansion and sustainability plans were raised to enhance the role of the observatory regionally.
It also touched on the framework of comprehensive governance, the mechanism of forming the Executive Committee and sub -work teams, with a clear definition of their tasks and roles, as well as reviewing the executive plan that aims to achieve a qualitative shift in supporting and empowering women economically in the Arab world, and developing plans to ensure the sustainability of the project.
In conclusion, the door was opened for an open discussion with the happiness of the permanent delegates, and the meeting of the meeting.
