Sharjah, May 5 / WAM / Asphal “Sharjah Reading Festival for Children 2025” is the curtain on its sixteenth session, drawing 125,700 visitors from 167 countries at the Expo Sharjah Center, as part of an interactive experience that collected – under the slogan “to immerse books” – between literature, art, imagination and innovation, and formed an exceptional knowledge and entertainment station for children and adolescents and families from different Around the world after 12 days of the cultural and creative movement that made books a focus for learning and discovery.
By organizing the Sharjah Book Authority, the festival embodied the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and the directives of his wife, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Muhammad Al Qasimi, President of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, in enabling emerging generations of knowledge tools, and developing the love of reading and creativity.
His Excellency Ahmed bin Rakad Al -Amiri, CEO of the Sharjah Book Authority, said: We are not organizing a festival, but we complete the drawing of the features of a civilized project that believes that the child is not only a reader of tomorrow, but also the makers of the present. This is confirmed by the inspiring vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, which makes every cultural event part of an integrated system for human building, and the Sharjah Reading Festival for the child has today become a global platform to consolidate cognitive values, and a living laboratory to launch the talents of the new generation, expand his imagination, and enable him to think of thinking and innovation.
He added: Under the directives and follow -up of Her Highness Sheikha Badour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sharjah Book Authority, we continue in the commission to work on developing content, expanding partnerships, and providing a rich cultural experience worthy of Sharjah’s position as a beacon for the book and an open horizon for the future.
The closing day of the Sharjah Reading Festival for Children 2025 witnessed the honoring of the winners of the “Sharjah Child Books Fees” for the two young adults, where Khawla Al -Majaini, General Coordinator of the Sharjah Reading Festival for Children, honored the winners of the two age groups, where the Kumar badges won first place for the category (12-15 years), and Maryam Yahya Kazem Al -Badri ranked second. As for the age group (16-18 years), I won the first place, Tabark, Reza Abdullah Muhammad Saleh, while Amna Fateraz Munir Jashti came in second place.
Khawla Al -Mujini stressed that the sixteenth session proved again that the book is the strongest means of building minds and making the future, noting that the cultural and interactive momentum witnessed by the festival this year reflects Sharjah’s commitment to its civilizational project transient for generations and borders, and its keenness to enable children to be creative and knowledge in an environment rich in experiences and cultural diversity.
She added: We made sure that every child is the focus of this experience, to leave the festival and with him the book that expresses his passion, and stimulates him to discover his abilities, and achieve his dreams in the path he chooses and the work that meets his ambitions, to make his way towards the future with confidence and knowledge, driven by the love of reading and the passion of innovation.
The festival witnessed the participation of 122 publishing houses from 22 countries, and more than 133 experts from 70 countries hosted about 1024 events that included interactive sessions and workshops in the fields of literature, arts, technology, and science, in addition to theatrical and recreational theatrical performances, amid a distinguished presence of families, schools and educational and cultural institutions.
In confirmation of the support of Sharjah for the book industry, His Highness, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, directed 2.5 million dirhams to acquire books from participating publishing houses, to provide Sharjah libraries with the latest publications that enhance their Arab and international content and support the publishing sector.
The festival was an interactive space for children through 85 theatrical and mobile shows, workshops in cooking and comics art, presenting more than 50 cultural sessions in which a group of authors, painters and creators from 17 Arab countries participated, in addition to embracing the “Sherlock Holmes International” exhibition for the first time in the Emirates, launching the “Century Reader” platform, and launching the new identity of the International Prize for Arab Child Literature.
Among the most prominent interactive spaces that acquired the attention of visitors, came the “Future Makers Museum”, which opened its doors to children to live rich educational adventures presented in a simple and fun way.
In appreciation of the creativity of the young, the festival honored the winners of the “Poetry Poetry” competition, which highlighted poetic talents in recitation and memorization, as well as honoring the young talents winning in the child’s book fee competition.
These awards constituted great moral support for creative children and child book drawers, and to motivate them to continue literary and artistic excellence.
