India and Pakistan – the United Nations calls for restraint and avoiding military confrontations

In statements to reporters at the permanent headquarters of the United Nations, Secretary -General Antonio Guterres expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude to the government, the people of India and Pakistan and their great contributions to the work of the United Nations and its peacekeeping operations.

Guterres stressed that the targeting of civilians is rejected, and stressed the necessity of bringing its officials to justice through legal and credible ways.
He also emphasized the need – especially during this critical time – to avoid military confrontations that may easily be out of control. He said: “Now is the time to exercise the utmost restraint and stay away from the brink of the abyss.”
The Secretary -General of the United Nations stressed that the military solution is not a solution. He offered the Indian and Pakistani governments to make his good endeavors to serve peace. He said that the United Nations stands ready to support any initiative that enhances the reduction of escalation, diplomacy, and the renewal of peace commitment.
