Signing a “historic” trade agreement between India and Britain after years of arduous negotiations

Britain and India announced today, Tuesday, to reach a long -awaited trade agreement to cancel customs duties on Scottish whiskey and dozens of other products. The agreement came more than three years after the start of the negotiations that were frozen during the rule of the previous British government.
The Prime Minister of India, Prime Minister Narindra Modi, said on the meeting x platform that the agreement was “an ambition and useful for both parties.”
The British government described the agreement as a “historic event.” She said that the agreement will reduce Indian import taxes from whiskey, cosmetics, medical products, auto parts, aircraft and other British commodities.
According to the agreement, customs duties on whiskey and the jinn will be reduced from 150% to 75% before they decrease to 40% by the tenth year of the agreement. Carrology will decrease from more than 100% to 10% under the shares system.
Britain said that the bilateral trade agreement is expected to increase by 25.5 billion pounds (34 billion dollars) annually “in the long term.”
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson praised the official talks that started in 2022 on the Free Trade Agreement, as a major goal after Britain left the European Union in 2020.
The two countries held 13 negotiating rounds without making any progress before the talks were suspended, while the two countries were holding general elections in 2024.
Modi was re -elected, and Britain replaced the government of the Conservatives with the leadership of the Labor Party led by Prime Minister Kiir Starmer.
