“Economy” launches the registration system “the national product, which is defined geographically”

Yesterday, the Ministry of Economy launched the system of registration of the “national product specified geographically”, as the first national service of its kind to protect Emirati products related to a specific geographical origin that carries unique features and characteristics, and to enhance the intellectual property protection system for national identity products.

The ministry indicated – on the sidelines of a press conference held yesterday, in Dubai, in the presence of the Deputy Chief of Police and Public Security in Dubai, Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim – that it started the first stage of the system with four products that are famous for producing different areas in the Emirates, and it is expected that the number of products covered in the service will reach six products at the end of this year, while the registration of 25 food and craftsmanship products is studied, explaining to the Emirates Today, that the initiative will enhance the initiative. The identity of national products exports in the various emirates of the state, and preserves the rights of its trademarks.

In detail, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy, Abdullah Al Saleh, said that “the ministry launched the registration system (the national product specified geographically), as the first national service of its kind concerned with protecting Emirati products related to a specific geographical origin,” noting that “the new service aims to protect Emirati products related to a specific geographical origin, which enhances the protection of intellectual property, and opens new horizons for the Emirati industries with identity Local ».

He added that «the plan for the first stage of the service of registration of the national product, which will be geographically determined, will include four products that are currently being registered and protected, namely: Honey from the Hatta region, linked to the mountain environment and traditional practices in its production, and the ceramics from the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, which has a history in handicrafts, is one of the most prominent exports Agricultural, authentic, in addition to the traditional wicker products that are made in the various emirates of the country, and reflects the Emirati craft heritage. It is expected that the number of products covered in the service will reach six products at the end of this year.

He added that «the service registration service will be provided completely electronically through the official website of the Ministry of Economy, as the Ministry begins to receive requests for registration of products from inside and outside the country, according to controls that take into account the geographical and traditional characteristics of the product,” noting that “the ministry is currently working on studying 25 additional products, including 13 food products, and 12 products of handicrafts, in preparation for registering them during the coming period.”

For his part, the assistant undersecretary for the intellectual property sector in the Ministry of Economy, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al -Muaini, said that “the system of registration of national products that are geographically defined will enhance the identity of exports of Emirati products that are famous for different regions in the country, and raises their competitiveness, and will also allow intellectual ownership protection for brands for these products.”
