A former member of the American Congress tells his experience in prison

Former Republican Congress, Bob Nay, who spent 17 months behind bars, talked about his experience in prison, and gave a set of advice to his former colleague George Santos, who is expected to spend about seven years on fraud.

In an interview with the “Politico” magazine, Nay, who represented Ohio, said that entering the prison was a great shock to him, indicating that he was like any other prisoner, and he had many friends.

Here are excerpts from the interview:

. What did you feel when I was about to enter the prison after I was a member of Congress?

.. This depends on the quality of the prison, but let’s see the truth, because I was living a different life in terms of the agenda, and dealing with people, because I did not enter the prison or an hour throughout my life, and for this when you realize that you will actually be imprisoned, that will be a shock to you.

. How worried is the feeling that you will go to prison?

In fact, your world is really collapsing, as you move from the chairman of a committee in Congress to prison, and then you hear various stories about what you can face in prison.

. How did you prepare for prison?

.. I met with the father of Hubble, a friend of Bill and Hillary Clinton, and he was imprisoned for his involvement in the “White Water” scandal, where I learned from him almost everything, and taught me what to do, because there will be no special place for me or anyone I summon if I was harassed.

. Did the prison group know that you are coming to them?

Everyone knew that, because the CNN news station talked about it, and there were television rooms in prison, and for this everyone knew that I was coming.

. Do you think you are a politician, you will learn something from the prison life?

Bob Hubble informed me that I use politics and sense of humor, but I avoid certain things, and after my work 24 years in government work, and 11 years in Congress, I managed to deal with the public and became dealing with prisoners.

. How can the prison be compared to Congress?

.. I loved Congress, but it is an uncomfortable place, and it may be a place for conflict, and if you can coexist with Congress, you will also coexist with prison because humans are humans who do not disagree, and Congress can be a left place undoubtedly.

. How were you being treated in prison?

.. I made a lot of friends, and there were some unwanted people for me, and Mizfinski’s hands, the father of Chelsea Clinton’s husband, was in prison, and he was a very loved person and we used to make jokes about running for prison sentences.

. Are you always seen as a member of Congress or just an ordinary prisoner?

.. You will be classified as a person with privileges, and this is why you will be seen as the owner of privileges, and it is not true in prison, and you have to open up to yourself, think of a balanced mind, and to maintain your humility.

. What advice you can give to George Santos as he will enter prison?

First, there is no internet inside the prison, but there are some relatives who visit you, and the system knows where George will eventually go.

Secondly, he will not have any weight in prison as a member of a Congress, and therefore he has to deal with people with humility, and something else I want to advise him, that he will enter the prison and get out of it while he suffers from psychological problems, which can happen to anyone, and for this he has to ask for help to recover from psychological problems.

. Santos was afraid that he would be targeted by the gangs, because he voted on a law that led to their imprisonment. Is this a danger to him?

.. On the first day of my presence in prison, a person stopped me, and he said to me: “Did I participate in approval of the law that brought me the prison?” So I told him that I supported the law and did not remember it, then I left it and walked. About «Politico»
