"Khor Fakkan" .. a pioneering step towards the development of the marine environment in Sharjah

Sharjah, May 13 / WAM / in implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, of the need to protect the marine environment and preserve its resources and development in a manner that guarantees its sustainability for future generations, the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority launched the “Khor Fakkan” project in cooperation with the private sector, reflecting the active partnership and fruitful cooperation between the public and private sectors in supporting the strategic vision of the state Emirates and Sharjah in the field of environmental sustainability.

In this context, the commission conducted an accurate environmental survey of the sea floor in one of the vital sites in Khorfakkan, in cooperation with a specialized company, as part of the experimental stage of the project that aims to study the effectiveness of artificial caves in providing safe and attractive naval habitats for marine creatures, and analyzing their impact on the local marine ecosystem.

His Excellency Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazia, Chairman of the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority, stressed that the “Khorfakkan” project represents a qualitative step towards the development and sustainability of fish wealth in the emirate, by providing various marine environments that encourage fish reproduction and enhance biological diversity.

He explained that in the year 2024, the authority concluded partnership with the specialized international “Hijo X” company, to study the project over a full year, based on a comprehensive review of the best global practices in the design of industrial reefs, and said that the study relied on advanced techniques, including 3D survey, to monitor and analyze the different quantities and types of fish, where the initial results showed promising indicators on the expected positive impact of the project on life Navy in the future.

This project comes within the continuous efforts of the Emirate of Sharjah to protect the marine environment and support innovative environmental initiatives, in line with the state’s directions towards achieving sustainable development and preserving natural resources.
