Sharjah, May 14 / WAM / The Organizing Committee of the Sharjah International Chess Professors Championship announced that the total financial prizes of the eighth version of the tournament to 75 thousand dollars, with the participation of 350 players and players from 60 countries, announced the highest participation rate witnessed by the championship since its inception.

The tournament will start next Saturday and will continue until May 26, and is organized by the Sharjah Chess Club, under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah.

Abdullah Murad Al -Mazmi, the championship director, said that the current version includes three main championships, including: The Professors Championship for Classified Persons above 2500 points, the players under 2500 points, and the classified championship between 1900 and 1400 points, as well as a championship for the Sharjah government employees organized in cooperation with the government employees club within the accompanying activities.

He pointed out that the champion of the professors championship will receive a financial prize of 15 thousand dollars and the championship cup, while the second -place holder receives 10 thousand dollars and the silver medal, and the third will receive 7 thousand dollars and the bronze medal, with prizes allocated until the fifteenth place. Awards were also allocated $ 9,000 for the second championship, 5 thousand dollars for the third championship, and 10 thousand dirhams for the Sharjah government employees.

Al -Mazmi explained that the organizing committee had set the ceiling of participation at 260 players, but the great turnout prompted it to increase the number to 350 participants, of whom 156 hold international titles, including 69 large international professors and 16 international professors in the main championship, along with 8 senior international professors and 35 international professors and 28 federal professors in the second championship.
