While lawyers who spoke to Al -Youm newspaper confirmed that the Saudi Electricity Company’s decision regarding the start of the gradual separation of electrical service for the unique meters starting from May 15, 2025.
It comes in a clear organizational and legal context, and aims to improve the efficiency of service and enhance organizational compliance, calling on subscribers to expedite the modernization and documentation of their data in order to avoid legal effects.

They revealed that this decision represents a new organizational stage that reflects the Kingdom’s direction towards improving public services, applying the principles of justice and transparency, and raising the efficiency of infrastructure, in light of the digital transformation and continuous legislative development. The subscribers must take the necessary steps to ensure the continuity of the service and avoid any legal consequences in the future.
Lawyer and legal advisor, Bandar Muhammad Hussein Al -Amoudi, explained that the Saudi electricity system and his executive regulations constitute the legal framework that governs the relationship between subscribers and the service provider.

He pointed out that the electrical service contract is obligated to the two parties, and includes obligations such as data documentation, payment of bills, and allowing the company to implement maintenance work, or separation, in the event of a violation.
Al -Amoudi added that the Water and Electricity Regulatory Authority plays a pivotal role in setting standards and supervision, in a manner that guarantees the rights of the two parties, and enhances the justice of the service.
Al -Amoudi indicated that violating the conditions may lead to the dismissal of service, imposition of fines, deprivation of government support, and perhaps referring to the Public Prosecution in severe cases such as stealing the current or manipulating the facilities.

He explained that the decision enhances several important axes, including: “Improving the reliability of the electrical network and determining the malfunctions of the malfunctions, linking each counter to an actual user, which enhances transparency and accountability, reducing technical loss and financial leakage resulting from irregular meters, accelerating the digital transformation by facilitating the application of smart meters and electronic payment services, enhancing the consumer experience through accurate data, correct invoices and faster service.”

Al -Sharif stressed that the lack of compliance with the documentation of the meter exposes subscribers to multiple regulatory penalties that include: “The gradual and then final separation of electrical service, and the suspension of some additional services such as submitting applications or addressing complaints, and legal accountability that may reach fines or criminal procedures in the event of incorrect manipulation or data.”
Al -Sharif recommended, whether angel or tenants, quickly documenting the meters through the official electronic channels to avoid the interruption, while identifying the actual beneficiary of the service. They also advised the legal and consulting authorities that customers should educate the legal dimensions of the decision and provide the necessary support to settle their conditions in accordance with the regulations.
